Asoka Pattai refers to the bark of the Saraca indica tree, which holds a prominent place in Siddha medicine for its therapeutic properties, especially in women’s health. It is traditionally used to treat gynecological problems such as heavy menstrual bleeding (perumpadu), menstrual cramps (soothaga soolai), delayed periods (soothaga thadai), and white discharge (vellaipokku). The bark has natural astringent, cooling, and anti-inflammatory properties that help tone the uterus and regulate menstrual cycles. In Siddha practice, the bark is dried, powdered, and made into a chooranam (herbal powder).It is also strengthen the uterus and reduce symptoms of hormonal imbalance. Apart from its reproductive benefits, Asoka Pattai is used to manage digestive issues, internal bleeding, and ulcers due to its healing and anti-hemorrhagic properties. It plays a role in balancing the body’s Kapha humor, according to Siddha theory, and helps cleanse the reproductive system.
