Pinda Thailam is a classical medicated oil referenced in Ashtanga Hrudaya (Chikitsa Sthana) for managing vatashonita—conditions where Vata affects the blood. It is prepared by infusing a base of sesame oil (Sesamum indicum), combined with beeswax (Madhuchishta, Beeswax), Indian madder (Manjistha, Rubia cordifolia), Sal resin (Sarja Rasa, Vateria indica), and Indian sarsaparilla (Sariva, Hemidesmus indicus)—traditionally simmered until only the oil remains. The formulation is celebrated for its topical analgesic, anti-inflammatory, cooling, and soothing properties, making it especially effective for conditions like gouty arthritis, burning feet syndrome, joint tenderness, and heat-related musculoskeletal discomfort. It also supports improved circulation, nourishes tissues, and helps ease stiffness and redness in affected areas.
