Narayana Thailam is a revered classical Ayurvedic medicated oil prepared with a potent blend of herbs—such as Bilva (Aegle marmelos), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Brihati (Solanum indicum), Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum), Bala (Sida cordifolia), Shyonaka (Oroxylum indicum), Patala (Stereospermum suaveolens), Agnimantha (Premna mucronata), among others—infused into sesame oil, often using decoction and paste methods. It is traditionally indicated in Vata-origin conditions, such as joint stiffness, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lumbar and cervical spondylosis, gout, and general musculoskeletal discomfort. The oil is also employed to relieve aches due to travel, locked jaw, testicular discomfort, and tendon or ligament injuries through massage. In certain therapeutic contexts, it is used internally (in small doses, such as 5–20 drops before food under physician guidance), or via nasal instillation (Nasya) to support sensory strength and address issues like hearing and vision wellness. Application methods include Abhyanga (massage), Dhara, Basti, Nasya, and Pichu, making it a versatile oil in Panchakarma and postnatal care regimens. External use is generally well-tolerated,while internal or nasal applications should be undertaken only under professional supervision
