Karutha Vattu—also known as Karutha Gulika or Sirasthoda Gulika—is derived from classic formulations in Sahasrayogam and features ingredients like Kundurushka (Boswellia serrata), Aloe vera, Silicate of magnesia, Elephant excreta (Kandivenna) etc. Traditionally applied as a lepa (poultice) by mashing the tablet with breast milk, ghee, castor oil, or other media, it is gently rubbed onto affected areas. In Ayurvedic practice, it is valued for its cooling and anti‑inflammatory qualities, effective in soothing conditions such as headaches, lumbago, joint stiffness, stings, and traumatic swelling. The composition is specifically aimed at Pitta balance and tissue calming, particularly helpful in acute inflammatory manifestationsExternal application only.
